The Heavy Equipment Operator for Solid Waste Collection & Disposal will work mostly in operating a specialized refuse collection truck. Some other work will be in operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes, etc. in a variety of maintenance and construction tasks as well as a brush truck, side loader, and sweeper.

Minimum Requirements

• One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment
• Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Possession of a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain within six months of employment

Job Functions

• Drives and operates a heavy load hydraulic refuse collection truck
• Assists in loading trucks and covers assigned area or route
• Maintains proper schedule in picking up and hauling garbage and trash to disposal area
• Performs routine maintenance on vehicle including cleaning of vehicle
• Inspects the equipment for mechanical problems and informs supervisor of any problems
• Loads and/or helps load and unload trucks that requires lifting 50 to 75 lbs.
