Public Relations Specialist

Rate: $50 -$55/hr on w2

Hybrid in McLean VA Only (2 days/week) so only locals

Duration: ~6 months (May extend/convert at EOY based on budget)

IV: 1 round of interview

Note- the ideal candidate will be outgoing and need to fit within the culture of this team. Most are outgoing and outspoken being that they are in communications.

This organization is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, creative, and results-driven professional to support our Corporate Communications team. This contractor role will support external communications for Public Affairs. Public Affairs employs a range of PR marketing and media relations tactics to educate stakeholders about key policy issues.

The ideal candidate for this role is a self-starter with superior written and verbal communication skills. This person will have excellent attention to detail, foundational project management skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic and changing environment. Being able to identify white space and problem solve in real time through communications in various forms, is key to success in this position.

Basic Qualifications

At least 4 years of experience in communications, public affairs or media relations

Ability to submit 1 to 2 writing samples upon request (Case study or something they've worked on, a press release, a media pitch, a blog post etc.)

Ability to provide workplace references upon request

Preferred Qualifications

Background and experience in PR agency, business, not-for-profit or political communications areas.

Familiarity with decision-maker audiences, such as elected officials and community activists, and an understanding of best practices for influencing those stakeholders’ perspectives is preferred, but not required

Experience integrating data and research into messaging and earned media plans

Experience designing, planning and executing events

Background in the financial services and/or tech industries is preferred, but not required

Job Responsibilities

Draft, edit, and review a wide-range of communication materials such as reporter briefings, strategy decks, opinion editorials, presentation materials, and talking points.

Coordinate and track public engagement, media activity, and other external conversation for various Public Affairs functions.

Handle administrative duties, including scheduling, developing agendas, and taking detailed and action-oriented notes during meetings.

Assist in the development and execution of tactical communications and campaign plans, including press roll-outs and events.

Work cross-functionally with members of the Public Affairs team and larger Corporate Communications team on various interconnected efforts.

Conduct and assist in tracking and reporting of projects and campaigns for success measurement.
