Bachelors degree in Nursing holds an unrestricted nursing license in Texas; CPR/ BLS certified.
School nurse experience preferred, and/or 1-2 years pediatric nursing experience.
Knowledge, Ability & Skills:
o Attends Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings of students with identified health needs, and develops the IHP;
o Knowledge of principles and practices underlying professional nursing. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask when necessary. Ability to perform independently. Ability to remain pleasant and helpful under sometimes-stressful circumstances. Knowledge of current State and Federal regulations established by the Nurse Practice Act.
o Coordinates implementation of state mandates related to school health services including, but not limited to: state mandates screenings, immunizations, Type 2 Diabetes Screening and other state laws, rules and regulations;
o Collaborates with administrators to integrate and implement health policies, and practices with the priorities of the school
o Communicates with parents and community in areas concerning student health and safety, acting as the schools liaison to parents in health matters;
o Collaborates closely with programme directors, head of school, school counselor, teachers, parents, and other staff to provide leadership and ensure a healthy school environment. Assists in meeting the health needs of the general school population and those students identified with specific health conditions;
o Provides case management and education of students with chronic illness: life threatening allergies, diabetes, asthma, seizures, ADD/ADHD.
o Serves as a resource for physical and mental health promotion, accident and injury prevention, infection control, and a safe school environment
o Provides direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans and established school health policies, procedures and protocols;
o Initiates and maintains accurate student health records, immunization records, medication administration records, individual student treatment plans, and individualized healthcare plan utilizing confidential methods;
o Establishes effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs and submitting required reports;
o Communicates with parents regarding individual students and serves as a liaison between school personnel, & family.
