Structural Field Inspector - Position and Responsibilities

As a Structural Field Inspector with Middough, you will act as the company’s field representative and gather documentation of existing conditions for the development of engineered repairs of deficiencies found.

The Structural Field Inspector is also a construction monitor during repairs or installation of structures and modifications resulting from the inspection findings.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

• Detect observable defects and / or failures of structural components and recommend noncomplex standard repair recommendations.
• Prepare daily reports on information retrieved from on-site inspections.
• Read site drawings and make changes accordingly based upon inspection results.
• Know and understand the current equipment inspection standards, codes, practices, procedures, methods, inspection equipment, as applicable.
• Provide technical support and problem-solving skills around inspection methods and procedures to complete work within scope and intent of applicable codes and standards.

Education, Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will possess the following :

• 5 years of experience in a heavy industry environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred; associate degree considered.
• High School diploma required.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD required.
• AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance), NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers), AWS (American Welding Society), API (American Petroleum Institute) Certifications and / or Nondestructive testing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of and work experience using measuring instruments (such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and height gages).
• Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to multi-task and be highly organized for effective project planning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently walk up to and more than 10,000 steps per day, reach with hands and arms, climb several flights of stairs per day, ladder ascending and descending, balance, stoop or kneel, bend / twist, and use repeating motions that may include the wrists / hands / fingers.
• Must have the ability to hear and speak at all times.
• Subject to confined space entries and non-confined space work requiring bending, reaching, climbing with inspection tools, harnesses, and lanyards.
• Frequent use of hand tools including but not limited to hammers, wire brushes, tape measures, etc.
• Infrequent ability to move up to 50 pounds and frequent ability to move up to 10 pounds.
• Frequently use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Should not expect adverse environmental conditions within company offices.
• May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as climbing ladders and / or stairs, extreme heat and / or cold, and / or poor air quality) if or when on-site at a client facility.

• May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
• This position requires the candidate / employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence.
