Essential Functions

Summary
The purpose of this position is to set up, operate and tend paint systems to wash, paint or apply varnish to boat trailers with meticulous detail in order to provide high-quality paint results. 
Essential Functions
  1. Paint parts and product surfaces using spray guns and other paint tools to specifications.
  2. Regulate conveyor speeds, machine temperature, air pressure and circulation, as well as the flow or spray of paints. 
  3. Prepare surfaces to be painted by filling small dents or scratches with body fillers, apply caulk and seal seams to create smooth surfaces. 
  4. Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings. 
  5. Mix paints to match color specifications or original colors, stirring or thinning paints, using mixing equipment. 
  6. Weigh or measure chemicals, coatings, or paints before adding them to machines. 
  7. Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections or by using viscometers. 
  8. Monitor equipment gauges and equipment performance to ensure accurate performance.
  9. Adjust controls on infrared ovens, heat lamps, portable ventilators, or exhaust units to speed the drying of surfaces between coats. 
  10. Disassemble, clean, and reassemble equipment using solvents, wire brushes and cloths. 
  11. Dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with company policy.
  12. Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as runs or dry shot, and correct their causes. 
  13. Participate in departmental and individual 5S tasks, as assigned by leader or manager.
  14. Ensure all actions are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  15. Complete all other duties and cross-training activities as assigned.
Additional Duties
  1. Work daily overtime, when required, to complete the day’s scheduled assignments.
  2. Cross-train in other departments to be able to assist where and when needed.

Qualifications


Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one (1) year painting experience required
Specialized Knowledge
  • Knowledge, recognition and use of sprayer and painting equipment
Competencies
  • Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and job duties
  • Willingness to help where and when needed, beyond the scope of normal day-to-day duties
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret written instructions
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in an air suit
  • Ability to quickly move your hands, arms, or fingers to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
  • Balance and flexibility, with an ability to safely navigate over and around equipment and tools
  • Ability to work in varied positions (e.g., overhead, flat, and vertical work)
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and squatting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Manufacturing facility – must comply with all safety regulations and PPE requirements (e.g., gloves, face shields, steel toe shoes, safety glasses)
  • Exposure to hot and cold temps for long periods of time
