Job Description

Position Overview: As the Procurement Manager, you will take the lead on all activities related to the purchasing and shipping of raw materials in our department. You'll negotiate and manage timber contracts and oversee the sale of wood residuals, ensuring our operations align with strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Negotiate and execute timber purchase contracts, including gatewood and stumpage.
  2. Collaborate with management to determine raw material needs, pricing strategies, and inventory plans.
  3. Oversee the maintenance and operation of wood procurement software systems.
  4. Manage scale house operations, establishing policies and supervising personnel.
  5. Train personnel on log scaling and purchasing processes, as well as the use of procurement software.
  6. Coordinate the sale of wood residuals (chips, bark, wood fuel) with trucking contractors and customers.
  7. Maintain accurate records of transactions and contracts, ensure compliance with insurance requirements, and generate periodic reports.
  8. Review scale tickets, approve log contractor payments, and liaise with contractors and the accounting department for accurate record-keeping.
  9. Conduct month-end log inventory counts.

Secondary Duties:

  • Perform other related duties as required to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in procurement or related field.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Advanced computer and clerical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time position, 45 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 10 pounds, and to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and exposure to wood dust.
