THE SALVATION ARMY CENTRAL TERRITORY is Hiring a Case Worker Near Marshalltown, IA

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Starting salary is $15 per hour.

Summary/Primary Purpose: Under the supervision of the Corps Officer, the case manager provides case management using The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope philosophy of care and provide support for the representative payee services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

CASE MANAGEMENT DUTIES

  • Conducts case management including intake interviews to identify assistance needs using The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope philosophy of case management.
  • Ensures case management notes are documented in a timely manner within The Salvation Army's Information Management System, SIMS, and other required antimanagement platforms as necessary.
  • Networks and collaborates with other community agencies to successfully provide services and accomplish the mission of The Salvation Army.

REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE DUTIES

  • Supports the representative payee program with the following key functions:
    • Managing client finances: Manages these funds responsibly per Salvation Army finance policies and procedures.
    • Meeting Beneficiary's Needs: Ensures basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, and medical care, are met using the benefit funds.
    • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Creates a budget for the beneficiary, allocating funds appropriately to cover expenses while ensuring there's no misuse or overspending.
    • Paying Bills: Pays bills and other financial obligations on behalf of the beneficiary, ensuring that essential services are maintained.
    • Maintaining Records: Keeps accurate records of all income received and expenditures made on behalf of the beneficiary is crucial for accountability and reporting purposes.
    • Reporting: Provide the Corps Officer with periodic reports regarding oversight of the benefits, detailing how the funds were used and the beneficiary's current status.
    • Advocating for the Beneficiary: Acts as an advocate for the beneficiary, ensuring their rights are upheld and representing their best interests when necessary.
    • Monitoring Changes: Stays updated on any changes in the beneficiary's circumstances that may affect their eligibility or the amount of benefits they receive.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Participates in required Salvation Army trainings and meetings including 1:1 supervision with the Corps Officers, Corps team meetings, monthly Divisional Social Services Case Management Meetings, and others as deemed appropriate by the Corps Officer.
  • Maintains and prepares reports, proper records, statistics and filing for The Salvation Army.
  • Coordinates the pantry services, donations to the social services programs and use of volunteers.
  • Facilitates the dispersant of emergency funds for client assistance.
  • Plans and executes Christmas assistance and other Salvation Army seasonal activities in coordination with the Corps Officer.
  • Adheres to all Salvation Army Finance, Human Resource, and Social Services policies and procedures. .
  • Presents a professional and positive manner that contributes to a healthy workplace.
  • Assists with seasonal activities and community events as assigned
  • Driving is an essential duty of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. The ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, and attention to detail and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Mus be approved through the Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete The Salvation Army's Safe from Harm training, Case Manager Certification, Pathway of Hope, Representative Payee training, and The Salvation Army's Information Management System training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate cleaning equipment. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.
