Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of Crossroads’ grounds, equipment, and physical plant. This role requires physical activity approximately 90% of the time, including standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Depending on the task, the ability to lift from 10 to 100 pounds is necessary. The standard hours for this position are 7:30am to 3:00pm, but flexibility is required for tasks such as snow removal or accommodating vendor deliveries.

General Responsibilities:

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for staff and students
• Ensure cleanliness of all common areas, including the kitchen, cafeteria, lobby, and break rooms
• Keep items stocked in classrooms, restrooms, conference rooms, and common areas
• Monitor, clean, and service all restrooms and classrooms
• Assess facility-related problems and propose potential solutions
• Maintain a flexible schedule to perform work after school hours when necessary
• Assist the maintenance team with snow removal
• Perform other duties as requested by the Facilities Manager and Senior Management
• Adhere to the Crossroads Employee Handbook

Main Responsibilities:

• Fix and repair general plumbing, woodworking, and electrical problems; assess when professional help is needed
• Repair holes in walls and paint as needed
• Install wall-mounted equipment
• Distribute deliveries to the appropriate department or individual
• Run local errands for the school
• Assist staff with moving furniture, supplies, and materials
• Assist staff in setting up for school functions
• Ensure the safety of walkways, including the removal of snow and ice during inclement weather
• Clean the interior of vans and fill gas tanks at the start of each week
• Schedule regular maintenance and repairs of the vans
• Update the inventory sheet of regularly used supplies weekly
• Order facility supplies as needed using the facilities management sheet
• Check the school building for safety, cleanliness, and maintenance issues at the beginning and end of each shift
• Report facilities issues to the Facilities Manager
• Take out trash and recycling to appropriate outdoor containers as needed
• Anticipate facility needs and report them to the Facilities Manager
• Coordinate facilities needs with the cleaning vendor
• Clean spills around the school as needed
• Regularly check thermostats for even heating and cooling
• Secure the building upon leaving for the day

Educational and Experiential Requirements:

• High school diploma required
• Prior janitorial or custodial experience required
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and clean driving history
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and woodworking
