Position Summary

Responsible to the department chair and the chief instructional officer for duties and instruction of history courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
In adhering to general faculty policies and guidelines specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the MMI Faculty/Staff handbook, and the Academic Dean. The successful candidate will also perform the following duties.

Instructional duties:
  • Provides quality instruction in courses that the chair and Dean agree will be taught to include specific courses in history.
  • Develops and maintain departmental objectives and accomplishments and perform required reporting.
  • Maintains all records; report as required by the Institute.
  • Serves as an academic advisor.
  • Develops and adhere to course syllabi containing clear course objectives and relevant activities.
  • Manages program and course curricula by helping select textbooks and evaluating learning materials.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule to meet program and school needs.
  • Develops student learning outcomes for the program and/or department.
  • Participates in faculty-related activities that attract and retain students.
  • Teaches a minimum of five classes each fall and spring semester.
  • Supports the College's vision, mission, goals and priorities.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Experience, Standards and Training:
  • Master's degree and eighteen graduate hours in history from a regionally-accredited university;
  • Record of successful teaching at the collegiate level;
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty and staff, and public;
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of the instructional team.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous military experience or previous experience as a student or employee of a military/institute/academy.

SALARY: Salary Schedule D1 1A; $45,676-64,883, based on relevant education and experience.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
