JOB TITLE: Camp Counselor

FLSA DESIGNATION: Non-Exempt

OBJECTIVES:

As a Camp Counselor for the City, you will be responsible supervising camp participants and assisting with camp activities. This position is a temporary/seasonal staff position scheduled to work between twenty (20) and forty (40) hours per week in a Seasonal Camp program setting. Successful applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, exhibit creative thinking, exercise good judgment, and have excellent communication skills.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

1. REPORTS TO: Recreation Coordinator
2. DIRECTS: Does not supervise any employee
3. OTHER: Responsible for supervising camp participants and assisting with camp activities. Has contact with other city employees and may have contact with the general public

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

To provide high-quality educational and recreational opportunities while supervising campers and ensuring their safety, development, growth, and general well-being.

• Oversees the daily operations of recreational facilities.
• Plans and leads activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.
• Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in the recreational facilities.
• Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
• Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
• Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
• Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
• Performs other related duties as required.
