Malden Catholic, a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Codivisional High School for young men and women, seeks a candidate for a Part-Time Bus Driver from 6:00 am to 8:00 am for $100/day. Description
  • To transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules. Drivers may be assigned to drive wheelchair buses. This Position requires a CDL. The school will pay for CDL test and additional training if needed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
  • Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed.
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to school policy.
  • Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.
  • Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
  • Services buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil; checks and when necessary, fills tires and batteries.
  • Performs periodical safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Completes periodic mileage and other reports including passenger counts.
  • Attend various meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required.
  • Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid and appropriate Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Possession of a valid CDL
  • Possession of a safe driving record.
  • Willingness to submit a random drug screening
  • 20/20 vision with or without glasses or contacts
  • This position requires a C.O.R.I. check due to the nature of the position.
  • Clean five-year driving abstract and no at-fault accidents within the last five years.
  • Knowledge of the provisions of the Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as applied to the operation of vehicles used in the transport of school children.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties.
  • Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle.
  • Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and extreme caution while driving.
  • Ability to maintain valid certification as school bus driving according to state regulations.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform required duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Language Communication Skills
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English in a satisfactory manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a pleasant speaking manner and good communication skills.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, feel, sit, grasp, hear, and perform repetitive motions of the hand/wrists, as well as legs; required to see up close and far away. May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. Working Environment:
  • Work is performed mostly outdoors. Employee may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
