Muscatine Power Water is Hiring a Maintenance Superintendent Near Muscatine, IA

Job Purpose

Supervise the Generation Maintenance group to ensure high plant availability and reliability. Provide leadership to the department by developing department goals, establishing standards for employee development, and budgeting for department needs.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of maintenance of the power generation facilities, including project identification, budget estimation, detailed planning, contract or in-house labor direction, close out, and training.
    • Serve as project leader on projects as assigned.
    • Ensure special maintenance materials, spare parts, tools, etc. are available as necessary to perform work on schedule, working with Supply Chain Services to establish specifications and timelines.
    • Identify items for future projects and develop plan and schedule for the project.
    • Make recommendations for optimizing maintenance activities.
    • Work with Planning & Scheduling on scheduling of project work.
    • Assists Generation Engineering and Planning & Scheduling in the planning for and installation of new plant equipment.
    • Work with Planning & Scheduling to develop new corrective, preventive, predictive, overhaul, and plant improvement projects.
  • Supervise the activities of Generation Maintenance personnel, including the following:
    • Make recommendations for hiring, promotion, evaluation, discharge, or other disciplinary action.
    • Train employees on MP&W policies and procedures and ensure employees understand thoroughly.
    • Provide guidance to staff regarding work procedures, technical issues, work priorities, and special requests.
    • Assess, actively develop, and set goals with employees to assist in their preparation for future growth within the Utility
    • Lead cross-training of employees to ensure needed knowledge of department operations is developed and maintained for succession planning.
    • Evaluate and recommend training programs for personnel as appropriate.
    • Develop/maintain a culture of safety within the department. Support the Utility’s safety programs, ensure adequate training, and provide safe working conditions and practices.
    • Develop/maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the department. Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the department.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and appropriate projections for the department.
  • Review area’s compliance with the budget on a monthly basis.
