UPMC Life Changing Medicine is Hiring a Medical assistant Near Montoursville, PA

UPMC in North Central PA is looking for motivated & enthusiastic candidates for our full-time Medical Assistant Trainee Program, with our next cohort beginning July 29th, ! Through this paid training program, selected candidates will be enrolled in a UPMC-paid Medical Assistant course which includes weekly clinical & clerical classes, didactic skills modules, on-the-job training, cost-free MA certification exam, and full-time placement with an outpatient UPMC clinic in North Central PA.

In exchange for enrollment in the Medical Assistant trainee program, selected candidates must agree to the following :

  • A commitment to a 40-hour / week work and class schedule for 6-9 months.
  • A set hourly pay rate of $16.95 / hour.
  • A commitment to remain employed at UPMC North Central PA for a minimum of 18 months beginning at time of enrollment in the trainee program.

Purpose :

Under supervision, performs requested duties to assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction.

Will be trained on proper protocol to demonstrate the ability to fulfill all functions detailed below.

Responsibilities :

  • Send / receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms and requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments.

Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.

Performs other front office responsibilities as required.

Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam / procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.

Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam / procedure rooms.

Check schedules and organize patient flow. Accompany patients to exam / procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc.

Collect patient information and history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients and families.

  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures.

Document patient information into the medical record.

Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies / behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High School or equivalent
  • Current enrollment in a Medical Assistant training program is preferred.
  • Patient care experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
