Mechanical Engineer

This exciting role will be responsible for developing new automotive drivetrain products and expanding the current product line for the team! This position will be heavily involved with the entire product development process, from creating drawings and designing solid models to improving existing product lines by working with the production team. Their facility is located in the Louisburg, NC area. The company is a leading OEM and supplier of all automotive products including gears, axles, tools, transmissions, drivelines, etc. If you are an individual who is passionate about the automotive industry and loves to design and optimize complex mechanical systems, this role could be for you!

Responsibilities:

• Create detailed Engineering drawings, solid models, and assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Manage and organize the drawing vault of the SolidWorks original documents and current revisions for each product.
• Work closely with the production team to quickly resolve problems, make product improvements, and improve efficiency.
• Improve existing products by analyzing failed parts and providing ideas for improvements.
• Review new vehicle platforms as they are released to come up with new and improved aftermarket drivetrain solutions.
• Further develop the Quality program, documentation, and inspection requirements.
• Establish test requirements for new products and evaluate test data to determine if the product meets design requirements.
• Work with suppliers to ensure that key design requirements are met and fix any manufacturing issues.
• Work closely with other team members and customers to co-develop new products.
• Review engineering drawings for material selection, accuracy of tolerances, and fitment within design parameters.
• Occasional travel required to meet with suppliers, partner companies, and customers will be needed.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering is required.
• 5-10 years of mechanical design experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in using FEA and Simulation is required.
• Experience using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor is required.
• Experience with QA/QC inspection equipment, including basic measurement tools, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, and dial indicators.
• Romer or Faro arm (CMM) experience is preferred.
• Previous product development experience designing automotive aftermarket products is preferred.
• Experience designing sheet metal, weldments, and bracketry is preferred.
• Experience designing and drafting systems and parts based on industry-specific standards, experience in a manufacturing environment, and familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, metallurgy, heat treatment, and assembly tolerances is needed.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and mechanically inclined hands-on experience with basic hand tools and measurement tools are needed.

Salary Range:

• $90,000-110,000 depending on experience.
