Description:
Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and installation of concrete structures within the City of Logan and operates small to medium-size motorized equipment in the area of assignment.
Responsibilities:
Performs construction and maintenance activities on streets, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, waterways and all concrete structures within the City of Logan; operates backhoe/loader, dump truck, crew truck, and other equipment in the installation, maintenance, and repair of concrete structure; performs placement, finishing stripping and sealing of concrete; excavates areas where concrete is to be installed, maintained or repaired; fabricates metal fixtures such grating.
Constructs and places wood and metal forms used in the construction of concrete structures; assists crew chief with duties such as barricading, proper signing, and safety procedures; uses various hand and power tools in the repair, installation and maintenance of concrete structures; works with construction materials such as asphalt, concrete, culvert/pipe, top soil, sand and waste materials; performs minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
Performs assigned work under hazardous conditions, moving traffic, and adverse weather conditions; operates snow plows and snow removal equipment when necessary; picks up and transports refuse and debris to the appropriate dumping site; maintains work records, daily reports, written reports, and vehicle and equipment usage documents; responds to emergencies such as natural disasters; accidents, spills, and hazardous situation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Characteristics:
Knowledge of the functions, operating methods, and care required for a wide variety of small to medium-size motorized construction, maintenance and automotive equipment.
Knowledge of the elements of construction technology as they relate to concrete construction, maintenance and repair activities.
Knowledge of applicable safety precautions for equipment operation.
Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations and safe operating characteristics.
Knowledge traffic laws, ordinances and regulations relating to the operation of assigned equipment.
Knowledge of street surfacing materials, including concrete, asphalt, other petroleum products and aggregates and street paving processes.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
Knowledge of traffic control and work zone standards.
Skill in the efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment.
Skill in performing skilled and semi-skilled concrete construction and maintenance tasks.
Skill in general motorized and non-motorized equipment maintenance
Skill in reading maps, drawings and construction plans.
Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent AND experience equivalent to two (2) years full-time concrete finishing and maintenance work, including the operation of small to medium-size equipment. Must possess or be able to obtain a Forklift Operator Certificate. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at a level appropriate to the equipment operated including Tanker and Combination Endorsements. May require various Equipment Operations Certificates.
