Position DescriptionLivonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified secondary English Language Arts (ELA) teacher who will be able to develop and sustain academic-focused instruction for students in the subject of ELA. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement.
DISTRICT OVERVIEW:Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Superintendent in exercising the prerogative to determine appropriate qualifications.
The employee's salary and working conditions are in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Professional Agreement between the Livonia Public Schools School District and the Livonia Education Association. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the subject area
- Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate with Bx or BA endorsements
- A major in the subject area is strongly preferred

- Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Create a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.

- Teach content and skills in Math to secondary students, utilizing curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.
- Integrate school improvement goals into the classroom.
- Adapt the curriculum, instruction, and lessons to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student.
- Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe and productive classroom environment.
- Maintain student classroom records using district provided electronic gradebook.
- Identify student needs and work collaboratively with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students.
- Communicate with students, parents, and school counselors on student progress.
- Administer and monitor group tests.
- Participate in school improvement initiatives at the district and school level, committees, and collaborative learning teams.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
