WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATOR IN TRAINING (OIT)

THE POSITION

The Water & Wastewater Treatment Operator in Training will be under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager and work in the Littleton, NH area.

This position accomplishes a variety of duties related to the daily operation of wastewater and water treatment (collection, treatment and distribution).

The position will oversee 3 pump stations. Hourly position with a minimum of 40 hours per week on site. This position could also be filled by a certified Operator.

THE DAY-TO-DAY

Conducts routine testing of wastewater and water as directed, records test results and maintains the plant logbook with accurate and timely entries of activities.

Maintains the facility treatment units to include clarifiers, oxidation ditches equipment, sampling equipment, and pumps.

Identify and report the need for repairs to treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed equipment.

Monitors all charts, gauges and other operating equipment and maintains calibration of plant instrumentation and on-line analyzers according to the frequency specified by permitting agencies and / or the manufacturer.

Calculates chemical feed rates, calibrates chemical equipment and adjusts chemical feed rates as indicated by lab tests or by the direction of the Plant Manager to comply with effluent quality requirements as established for the plant.

Adjusts or alters the chemical treatment of plant processes as required.

Responsible for housekeeping and grounds up-keep including mopping, dusting, mowing and weed trimming.

On-call availability within a 30-minute response time and rotational weekend and holiday duty is required for this position.

Perform other duties as required.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES DESIRED

Minimum required high school diploma or equivalent.

Valid state driver’s license with no DUIs and no more than 3 violations in the past three (3) years.

Able to pass and receive a Wastewater NH Grade 1 certification within one (1) year.

Some technical or mechanical work experience preferred.

Ability to learn wastewater treatment plant operations and obtain appropriate licenses.

Computer skills helpful but not a must, will train right person.

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to) :

Ability to speak and hear : 4-8 hr / day

Walking & Standing : 4-8 hr / day

Bending & Reaching : 4-8 hr / day

Pushing & Pulling : 4-8 hr / day

Use Hands & Fingers to Handle, Touch & Reach : 4-8 hr / day

Climb Stairs or Ladders

Balance, Stoop, Kneel, Crouch, Crawl & Sit

Physical Effort : Regularly lift 10-25 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs

Vision : Must be able to Distinguish Color and have Close & Distance Vision

Ability to Operate Motors fueled by Gasoline, Diesel, or Gaseous fuels.

Environmental Stress : Busy Atmosphere, Working Inside and Outside including Very Hot Temperatures & Snow and Ice. Noise Level is Moderate.
