Health Partners of Western Ohio is Hiring a Medical Interpreter Near Lima, OH

Medical Interpreter
North Lima Community Health Center
8a-4:30p Monday-Friday
POSITION PURPOSE
Provide interpreting assistance to HPWO staff members, primarily to the assistance of patient care. Provide resources, coordination, and advocacy services to patients and their and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be bilingual (Hanitian/Creole and English), preferred Associate Degree in
Communications, Social Work or a related field, and at least two years of work
related experience in social services or medical field.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Successful completion of in-house training.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all available services provided at Health Partners, community resources, intake and evaluation process, interviewing techniques, managing multiple priorities, effective time management practices, problem solving, managing change and conflict.
  • Communicating effectively in both written and verbal form, interviewing techniques, managing multiple priorities, effective time management practices, problem solving, managing change and conflict.
  • Manage time and deal with multiple priorities, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, define problems/barriers, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, make decisions, maintain confidentiality, listen well, maintain records and data, use computer and various programs to effectively communicate as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Individual needs to be compassionate, competent, and assume professional accountability for interactions with consumers, public and staff. In addition, they should be able to function in a team environment, have good work ethics, and a mature understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
  • Providing interpreter services for providers during office visits for medical and/or dental procedures, conducts new patient interviews, and completes patient assessments.
  • Respects and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Obtains necessary releases.
  • Participates with patients in case conferences/consultations as requested.
  • Serves as a community liaison; processes referrals received from health center providers (physicians, nurse-practitioners, dentists and other center providers) to other agencies, services or programs, provides assistance in gaining access to essential community resources. When necessary, the advocate will meet with consumer to facilitate access to their resources.
  • Assists providers (physicians, nurse-practitioners and dentists) with patients presenting in an urgent or crisis situation by facilitating appropriate referrals.
  • Communicates in a clear, concise, and timely manner with center providers (physician/nurse practitioner/dentists) and other appropriate personnel regarding patient status.
  • Assists patients in applying for patient assistance prescriptions.
  • Assists patients with various financial aid applications (Medicaid, Medicare, etc.).
  • Maintains thorough written documentation on patient records, all services and interactions provided to consumers. This includes meeting of any necessary deadlines in completing work due.
  • Performs in accordance with HPWO policies, as well as social work standards and ethics.
  • Contributes to quality improvement activities of the center.
  • Cross-trained to perform receptionist responsibilities related to the clinical team.
  • Follows all protocols, HIPAA, OSHA, safety, infection control, and biohazard standards while performing all duties.
  • Assists team with patient follow-up to reach quality measures.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Accompany providers and or staff to remote locations, if needed only.
  • Functions as a medical assistant, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as they are assigned.
