General SummaryUnder general supervision instructs students in academic and social skills in such a way that the individual student’s needs, interests, and abilities are met. Assists in other school programs as assigned.
Essential Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders to foster student learning.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students; supervises student activities on the playground, in the lunchroom, in arrival and dismissal locations and other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications.
  • Teaches concepts and skills based on state standards that facilitate learning and contribute to students’ academic and personal development.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; collaborates with other staff members to analyze assessment data in relation to student learning and develop instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
  • Selects, requests and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment and tools.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, and personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports to inform parents/guardians of students’ progress in accordance with school board policy; suggests interventions as appropriate.
  • If applicable, supervises activities of assigned instructional assistants which involve such duties as planning and reviewing work and providing instruction, guidance and training.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Valid South Carolina teaching certification
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license
Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of and ability to implement methods for developing lesson plans, materials and classroom activities which stimulate learning and provide for personalized learning. Knowledge of and ability to implement state standards. Knowledge of and ability to implement training methods used in teaching early childhood concepts and skills. Ability to provide instruction to students using 21st century teaching techniques and/or supervised practice. Knowledge of student services available and referral procedures. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems. Ability to provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.
Working ConditionsConducts duties in a classroom environment, in outdoor settings and on field studies with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires constant attention working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to twenty-five pounds. Occasional travel is required; limited overnight travel required.
ResponsibilityResponsible for supervision of students in classroom, field study and other instructional settings. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions and safety issues.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
