Blessed Stephen Bellesini, O.S.A. Academy is a small independent Catholic middle school dedicated to providing a quality scholarship education to students from limited financial means living in Lawrence. The mission of the school is to provide an academically challenging and highly structured environment that develops the potential for each student to succeed in competitive secondary schools and colleges. Bellesini Academy utilizes a proven model of education that specifically addresses the needs of at-risk students who live below the poverty line. We provide small classes, a rigorous curriculum, after-school sports and clubs, supervised homework time, and a four-week summer program. These integrated components ensure that each student is prepared for entrance to a college-preparatory high school. Our students gain an average of two grade levels each year in language arts and math, and our graduating classes have been offered over $30M in four-year scholarships to preparatory high schools. Bellesini Academy serves 120 students in grades five through eight and over 250 alumni through high school and college. Bellesini Academy includes ten full-time faculty members, an administration, alumni support, and development teams, as well as part-time after-school and support staff. The Assistant Head of School will play an integral role in the day-to-day lives of the students, families, and faculty while collaborating with the administration team, which includes the Head of School, Dean of Students, and Director of Alumni Support, on the school's needs and ongoing new initiatives. The Dean of Academics Primary Responsibilities: Provides leadership in conjunction with the administration team to faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians in developing academic excellence:Recruit new faculty and staff; Develop, coordinate, and lead new faculty orientation, professional development, and faculty meetings; Directs new faculty in a two-year mentor program through professional development, curriculum development and support, weekly meetings, classroom visits, and evaluation; Work with faculty and administration on curriculum development, evaluating school programs, professional development, teacher evaluation, and supervision; Ensure optional student engagement through regular classroom visits, student connections, and providing faculty support as needed; Work with faculty and staff on technology integration in the classroom; Collaborate with faculty and administration team to develop and implement plans designed to assist struggling students; andCoordinate the process of progress reports, grades, and assessments, and continue to work with faculty to build upon assessing student performance.Establishes a positive school–community: Create a positive, supportive, and achievement-oriented school culture for students, families, faculty, and staff;Strengthen student and family life, including developing and implementing faith-based programs and experiences, leadership programs, character education programs, academic enrichment programs, field trips, parent education nights, and supporting the after-school and evening study programs goals; andEnsure that school policies and procedures are clear and consistent. Work with the Dean of Students to serve as students' and families' primary contact for concerns for students.Additional School Responsibilities: Manage the day-to-day supervision and operation of the school along with the Dean of Students; Develop and manage the school calendar with the school administration team; Coordinates and directs the Bellesini Summer Program along with the Dean of Students; Support the new student admissions, fundraising events and programs, and high school placement office as needed; and Visible and present in the classrooms, building, and school programs.
