The Social Media Manager furthers the sanctuary’s mission of promoting a culture of compassion towards farmed animals by engaging the social community through captivating visual and written story-telling.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and create the execution of social media strategies
• Creates a scheduling system for posts to help sync cross platform posts
• Identified potential partners to engage for collaborative content
• Optimize platform affordances such as pictures, link, bio, reviews, and other various affordances to maximize and foster community engagement
• Collaborates with the Director of Public Relations once/twice per week (Sunday and Wednesday) to get updates on what posts must be made in the upcoming days/week.
• Ensures that scheduled posts are prepared and ready to post at least 72 hours in advance
• Reviews scheduled posts before they are shared, to ensure they are appropriately hashtagged, tagged with users in the photo and photo credit is given, assigned a location, free of typos, and no controversial language is used (culturally or politically) without approval from the Director of Public Relations. Posts should follow requirements outlined in “Social Media Overview” document:
• Analyze and apply social insights, audience insights, personas, and messaging to inform content production.
• Communicates problems and difficulties with the Director of Public Relations, as needed, to help troubleshoot and problem-solve.
• Attends monthly meetings with managers and directors team to get updates on what everyone is working on at the sanctuary, and communicate department needs. Monitor trending conversations, themes, hashtags, and upcoming social holidays to engage, when brand appropriate.
• Attends quarterly meetings with the Director of Advancement.
• Regularly checks and responds to all incoming emails, calls, texts, and Slack messages within 72 hours (except during time off or extenuating circumstances). Urgent matters are addressed immediately, generally within 24 hours.
• For vacation or time-off, communicate needs to the Director of Advancement who will fill-in for this role while volunteer is out.

Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older
• Management skills (conflict-resolution, coaching, delegation, etc.) (preferred)
• Excellent communication skills (required)
• Social media management experience (required)
• Marketing Skills (preferred)
• Flexibility (required): this role is a start-up position, and is the first of its kind for the sanctuary, so we will be developing it as we go.
• Minimum high school education or equivalent (e.g., GED)
• Basic computer competency (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.)
• Writing (grammar and punctuation) skills
• Must be a team player
• Volunteer experience with Magical Creatures Sanctuary (preferred)

Training:

• Social Media Training as provided by the Director of Public Relations
• MUST review and abide by the recommendations here:
• General Volunteer Orientation
• Animal Safety Orientation (if planning to come on-site to record content)

Time and Place:

Primarily virtual work (though volunteer can also come to sanctuary to record content as well, but not required).

Commitment:

• Overall time commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Supervision:

Direct supervision by Director of Public Relations and Executive Director; indirect supervision by Sanctuary and Board Directors.
