Job purpose
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for monitoring the quality of the board being produced during each assigned shift.
Duties and Responsibilities
Board Test - Identify board to be tested. Walk to finishing line and either carry or use forklift to bring board to QC saw area. Boards weigh up to 75 lbs. depending on thickness. Two boards are "pulled" (tested)/board test and three tests are completed in a 12-hour shift. Once on the saw table each 4'x 8' board must have three 1'x 4' strips cut from it (these weigh up to 9 lbs.). These are then cut in half and then in half again. The remaining 5'x 4' board (weighing up to 46 lbs.) is carried to a stack nearby. A forklift cannot effectively be used for this purpose.
1) 8 samples once/day have holes drilled in them using a small stationary drill. These are then placed in a vacuum tank which has a lid (weighing approximately 25 lbs.) that must be lowered and lifted. A second sample is placed in the tank later in the day, but no holes drilled.
2) Remaining samples are tested in special equipment used for that purpose. This can be done either sitting or standing. The controls are push button and computer operated. This part of testing takes approximately 30 minutes and involves the placing of samples in the machine. About half the time samples are placed above shoulder level.
Other Duties -
Dryer Moisture Samples - Once/12-hour shift walk to dryer building. Two separate wafer samples are taken. Must climb 15 ft. ladder to platform and reach into conveyor to get sample. Second sample requires climbing a 5 ft. to 6 ft. ladder to platform lifting a lid reaching in to get sample.
Vernier Caliper measure boards - when doing board tests. At other times as necessary. Requires tight grasping of a low weight mic.
Communicate effectively with Supervisors and managers as well as operators when our board quality is out of spec
