Cherokee Federal is Hiring a Research Scientist I Near Lafayette, LA

Research Scientist I

This position requires an active USAccess  clearance or the ability to obtain a USAccess clearance to be considered. 

The Research Scientist I will provide critical statistical support to our team of scientists. In this role, you will evaluate research plans, perform statistical analyses, and maintain data integrity to address key ecological and environmental issues. You will work independently, utilizing your expertise in statistical methodologies to contribute to important scientific research.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Research Scientist I: negotiable

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Research Scientist I Responsibilities Include: 

  • Evaluate research plans and sampling designs
  • Select appropriate statistical analyses
  • Perform statistical analyses
  • Summarize results of statistical analyses
  • Maintain research data on secure government systems
  • Use routine data management methods to maintain data integrity
  • Keep detailed logs of all changes to data files
  • Maintain approximately 2-3 data sets per project
  • Ensure accuracy of data files
  • Evaluate missing data and statistical outliers
  • Assess variable distributions, homoscedasticity, and multicollinearity
  • Determine the need for data transformations
  • Screen approximately 2-3 data sets per project
  • Conduct initial evaluation to clarify analysis objectives and readiness
  • Determine appropriate methodologies for analysis
  • Create and maintain protocols for commonly used analyses
  • Perform and summarize analyses
  • Deliver summaries and interpretations electronically to project scientists
  • Review study plans, reports, and manuscripts for statistical sufficiency
  • Perform approximately 3 analyses per data set and a total of 5 analyses per project
  • Maintain data integrity and documentation
  • Ensure thorough data screening and adequate summarization
  • Deliver accurate analysis write-ups and results
  • Submit monthly reports for review
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Research Scientist I Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: 

  • Advanced degree in statistics, biostatistics, environmental science, ecology, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques
  • Familiarity with ecological and environmental data
  • Knowledge of data management and data integrity practices
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed records and logs
  • Proficient in data screening and evaluation techniques
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and comply with established procedures
  • Capability to perform multiple analyses and handle various data sets
  • Skill in summarizing and interpreting statistical results
  • Competence in reviewing and ensuring the quality of scientific documents
  • Adaptability to new statistical techniques and methodologies
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
