Engineering Manager
Ladson, SC
Permanant position
Exempt from OT
Salary: $120-$150K annually

Plans and coordinates the work of engineering staff. Oversees engineering staff and ensures that they meet goals and objectives. Recruits additional engineering staff as needed. Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the Engineering Manager

  • Manages department budgets.
  • Designs engineering strategies.
  • Verifies project compliance with engineering best practices.
  • Collaborates with company stakeholders.
  • Updates department policies and procedures.
  • Develops engineering standards and modeling practices.
  • Conducts site surveys and collects sufficient information to serve as the basis for IFC drawings.
  • Develops the base drawings and coordinates with the A/E of record to produce IFC drawings.
  • Receives feedback from fabrication and the field and incorporates lessons learned to improve quality.
  • Coordinates with appropriate vendors to ensure proper hardware, etc. are procured for final product.
  • Estimates project costs with applicable margins and reviews with Senior Leadership for input in proposals to clients.
  • Ensures daily goals are communicated to each team member and such goals support the overall schedule.
  • Load / capacity planning input that supports the overall schedule.
  • Communicates invoicing milestones relative to contract and drives on time delivery.
  • In coordination with Director of Operations, develops KPIs, tracks them in a drive for improvement.
  • Generates production changes and releases drawings and estimates production timelines for each process.
  • Communicates with customers and vendors to ensure that each product can be made from specified materials/drawings and will meet customer needs.
  • Coordinates employees’ time off.
  • Manages and delegate assignments of the engineering department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES of the Engineering Manager
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Directly supervises all engineering positions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for the quality control of all engineering design documents that are released for fabrication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • ERP experience or NetSuite experience preferred.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to have a good understanding of CAD system and the capabilities of quick learning.
  • Must have 3D modeling experience, preferably in SolidWorks.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of cutting steel plate, forming plate utilizing press brakes, welding of plate and assembly.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of metric system and descriptive geometry.
  • Must have working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Engineering or Architecture or equivalent field/work experience. Ten years related experience. Experience with doors, door hardware highly desired.

TRAVEL

  • Ability to travel out of state for training or customer visits as needed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Requires analytical knowledge; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and enforce an extensive variety of legal and regulatory publications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Professional Engineering Certification or Architectural equivalent desired but not required. Experience is key.
