Bluestem Village is Hiring an Occupational Therapist Near La Junta, CO

$3000 Sign-On Bonus

The primary responsibility of the Occupational Therapist (OT) is to plan, delegate and provide safe and competent occupational therapy interventions as ordered by physician. In this role, you are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our villagers at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Villager Care Duties:

  • Provide occupational therapy assessments as well as develop and implement individualized treatment plans to increase client's independence and functioning
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards
  • Identify need to make referrals to other disciplines to address comprehensive care needs of the client
  • Demonstrate competent technical skills according to current Occupational Therapy standards of practice
  • Communicate changes in villager's condition
  • Participate in collaborative care conferences
  • Participate in discharge and community mobility planning
  • Prescribe necessary durable medical equipment to facilitate independence
  • Provide accurate and timely billing records and supervise supporting clinical documentation
  • Respond to family requests and concerns timely
  • Coordinate and provide training with Restorative Nursing and other Care staff
  • Assure villager abuse or neglect does not occur
  • Provide education and training to patient, caregiver, and community partners
  • Observe confidentiality and safeguards for all patient information

Department Duties:

  • Assist with training and education of facility and professional partners
  • Perform screening rounds as directed by Director of Rehabilitation to assess for client needs and environmental safety
  • Provide recommendations to Director of Rehab and other team members opportunities for business improvement, safety concerns or other updates
  • Participation in OT/OTA student development and educational programs
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory education, training and competency programs
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and tour readiness of the therapy department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/JOB TRAINING

  • Experience in providing appropriate care in post-acute or long-term care environment (preferred)
  • Current, unencumbered, active Colorado NBCOT License (required)
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Complete an educational council for occupational federation of occupational Therapist. (PER DORA)
  • CPR (as requested)
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent. (AA Degree in Business Administration preferred but not necessary.)
  • Must have basic computer knowledge.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Effective and efficient time management skills
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills to perform the tasks required
  • Previous experience and knowledge to provide appropriate care in post acute or long term care environment (preferred)
  • Knowledge of current Colorado occupational therapy practices and procedures including laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
  • Current, unencumbered, active Colorado Occupational Therapy License (required) Current NBCOT certification
  • CPR as requested

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in all areas of the facility
  • Moves intermittently during working hours
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Is involved with villagers, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset villagers, family members, etc
  • Communicates with facility staff and department supervisors
  • May work beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, nights, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
  • Must be familiar with the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing personnel administration
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without aide of medical devices)

Frequent squatting, twisting, and reaching;

Frequent walking and standing

Occasional villager handling, transferring and lifting from floor over 100 pounds

Occasional crawling, climbing, and sitting; frequent repetitive pushing, pulling, and grasping up to 50 pounds
