St. Martin de Porres, an Independence Mission School, is seeking a full-time Dean of Students. 

The Dean of Students will serve as the cultural and SEL (Social Emotional Learning) leader of the school and will cultivate a school environment that is filled with joy and love, allows deep student engagement with rigorous work, and encourages students to grow into resilient, peaceful, and empathetic individuals. 

This individual will be a leader within the school community, building bridges with families, students, and teachers. The ideal candidate will know how to build superior relationships with people at all levels and backgrounds, possess change management skills and be highly organized and thorough. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Align cultural and SEL systems to help achieve our school vision, based on our positive PRAISE values (Peace, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence)
• Create, implement, and maintain a robust and effective merit-based system of accountability and positive reinforcement
• Create and implement student-facing lessons to embrace school values, learn SEL skills
• Collaborate with Cora School Counselor, Catapult Family Connection Liaison, and other staff as part of Student Support Team
• Manage disciplinary processes and records for approximately 300 students within a restorative justice model that empowers students and promotes positive discipline
• Oversee scheduling and implementation of extracurricular and enrichment activities (including sports and academic clubs) and school community events
• Supports teachers in the delivery of effective classroom management strategies, and provide professional development opportunities for all staff
• Engage parents and other community members in the creation of a safe, supportive, and cooperative school environment that enhances the learning process
• Maintain and monitor safety and order by being accessible and visible to the school community

Qualifications:

• Interest in providing only the highest quality educational, social and emotional experiences for students and their families
• Superior grasp of effective, research-based behavioral methods and strategies for urban youth, including a restorative justice model
• Proven ability to influence and enhance cooperative working relationships within a team environment
• Ability to lead within a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly-changing environment
• Ability to leverage computer software programs and other technology that will support the learning environment (such as Class Dojo, TADS Educate, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, etc.)
• May be asked to support in other leadership roles within the building, substitute teach, and/or other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (required)
• Teaching experience (preferred)
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience with urban communities and/or at least three (3) years of demonstrated success in an urban school administration role or in a role as counselor or youth worker 
• 12 month or 10 month position
