Position: Accountant

Rate of Pay: $5,814.00- $8,143.33 monthly ($69,768 - $97,726 annually). This position is non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime.

Position Description/Requirements: Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor or Financial Manager, responsible for accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and analysis. Puget Sound Fire Overview: Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority is an internationally accredited full-service, all risk fire and rescue department that provides services to the citizens of Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, SeaTac, Tukwila, and Fire Districts 37 & 43. Our workforce is comprised of approximately 450 employees.

Work Location: Your main office will be at the South King County Fire Training Consortium (SKCFTC), located at 20811 84th Ave. S., Suite 102 in Kent, WA. Throughout the course of your work, you may report to various stations throughout our service area.

Typical Schedule: Working a day shift; typically a 10 hr. day, four days a week

Union Membership: No. This is a non-represented civilian position.

ACCOUNTANT

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor or Financial Manager, responsible for accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and analysis. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate accounts receivable records for PSF.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and generate invoices accurately and timely based on interlocal government agreements with other government entities.
  • Calculate local, state, and federal grants in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Generate invoices for various contracts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
  • Maintain detailed records of accounts receivable transactions, including invoice issuance, payment receipts, and adjustments.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable ledger to ensure all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices and ensure timely collection of receivables.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to obtain necessary documentation and information for invoice preparation.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding invoices, grants, and contracts.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and analysis related to accounts receivable and revenue as needed.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations, guidelines, and best practices related to government accounting and accounts receivable management.
  • Prepare AR-related journal entries.
  • Prepare Sales/Use Tax reports and other reports as required.
  • Analyze and submit financial information as the GEMT (Ground Emergency Medical Transport) program for Maple Valley (Fire District #43).
  • Assist with month-end closing.
  • Other accounting duties as assigned.

  • Intermediate principles, practices, and procedures of governmental budgeting, accounting, and purchasing including preparation, monitoring, transferring, and reporting (GASB & BARS).
  • Municipal financial research and analysis methods and techniques.
  • State, local sales and use tax rules, regulations, and rates.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations related to accounting in government operations.
  • Complex integrated computer systems and applications related to accounting.
  • Cash basis of accounting, Fund accounting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience:

Four (4) years of professional experience in public sector accounting.

In place of the above requirement, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential functions listed above.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Products, Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Incumbent must demonstrate exceptional knowledge and skill in utilizing computer applications such as Excel spreadsheets and Access database software to handle large amounts of data and correlate such data as necessary to audit records, track information, and solve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to type on keyboard for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work is performed in a typical office environment, which includes a technical workstation, a computer room with a controlled environment, as well as working with customers on site. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
