POSITION TITLE: Director of Operations

REPORTS TO: Executive/Creative Director

STATUS: Full-time/Exempt (1.0 FTE)

SALARY RANGE: $80,000-$95,000 benefits

THE ORGANIZATION:

K?huli Leo Le?a is a 501(c)(3) Hawai?i non-profit organization aimed at catalyzing aloha ??ina through the education, composition, and presentation of mele and other cultural practices.

K?huli Leo Le?a seeks a mission-driven and experienced nonprofit leader skilled in successfully executing strategic plans and empowering high-performing staff. Reporting to the Executive/Creative Director, Director of Operations will provide leadership and oversight for Operations, Budgeting & Finance, Human Resources, Non-profit Compliance, Payroll, Purchasing, and Research and Evaluation functions at K?huli Leo Le?a.

This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about leading hands-on operations, fostering growth, as well as developing, executing, and managing programs aligned with K?huli Leo Le?a’s mission.

JOB SUMMARY:

Director of Operations (DO) provides leadership and oversight for Operations, Budgeting & Finances, Human Resources, Non-profit Compliance, Payroll, Purchasing, and Research and Evaluation functions at K?huli Leo Le?a. In addition, the DO develops strategic goals, approaches, and plans to support these functions, implements the strategic plan into the operations and daily activities of the organization, coordinates activities among the functions, develops policies and procedures, ensures organizational compliance at the federal and state level, collaborates closely with and helps to lead the organization’s team, and oversees the overall organizational operations. With comprehensive knowledge of these functions and how they operate within the K?huli Leo Le?a ecosystem, the DO is a critical member of the K?huli Leo Le?a administrative team.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and maintains the organizational infrastructure that successfully sustains K?huli Leo Le?a.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for Operations, Budgeting & Finance, Human Resources, Non-profit Compliance, and Research and Evaluation functions.
  • Supports team members (i.e., staff and contractors) to accomplish their duties and responsibilities.
  • Develops strategic goals, coordinates activities among the functions, budgets resources, and provides financial management and organizational compliance.
  • Ensures consistent quality and access to Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Non-profit Compliance, Payroll, Purchasing, and Research and Evaluation functions and shared services; recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve the organizational goals for these functions.
  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, leads the daily internal operations and administration of the organization.
  • Ensures necessary financial and management compliance and controls. Works with K?huli Leo Le?a Leadership to develop annual budgets, and oversee annual financial reviews/audits, and prepare state and federal reports (990, etc.)
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, cultivates relationships to foster a strong organizational team; Provides leadership in developing inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture, and setting up staff for success.
  • Attracts, develops, coaches, and retains high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility and performance.
  • Compiles periodic reports outlining the internal performance of the organizational functions.
  • Leads the development and implementation of all internal policies and processes for operations in order to support organizational growth.
  • Interfaces with and reports to Board of Directors.
  • Some travel is necessary.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent education and/or 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in non-profit operations management, budgeting, finance, project and grants management and leadership, and state/federal compliance.
  • Knowledge of Native Hawaiian and/or Indigenous culture(s) and language(s). Ability to work effectively and respectfully with Native Hawaiian and Indigenous Peoples and communities.
  • Commitment to serving the public in a mission-driven organization.
  • Ability to assess qualitative and quantitative outcome data.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Strength in collaboration as part of a team to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, able to conceptualize, lead and execute complex projects and effectively convey their impact to various audiences.
  • Experience directing, motivating, developing, and supervising staff.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially Microsoft Office, financial software, Internet, email, etc.

This position is exempt/salaried, commensurate with experience. Primarily office environment in a remote setting with some in-person meetings/events; sedentary work.
