    JOB SUMMARY
    Under the direct supervision of the building principal, and in cooperation with the staff of the department, the Athletic Director plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the athletic programs at the Middle and High School in conformance with the student handbook and state law; and serves as classroom teacher.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: RULES & REGULATIONS
    • Follow all rules and regulations of the regional leagues, including preparing student rosters, submitting schedules, and other documents as required
    • Follow all school rules and regulations and school board policy
    • Work with building administration in resolving problems of discipline concerning athletes
    • Consistently enforce the athletic academic code issuing grade checks for all athletes and following up with the teachers/staff concerning students who violate the code
    ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION
    • Prepare and maintain a budget for interscholastic athletic programs, and assist the facilities supervisor in developing a facilities and grounds budget and calendar
    • Ensure proper reporting and documentation of all athletic injuries
    • Verify that all participants have a physical examination, proper permission forms, and insurance verification per school board policy
    • Supervise on-site athletic activities and perform athletic-related administrative duties
    • Screening, interviewing, and initiation of hiring process for new coaches with assistance and approval from school principal and finance department
    SUPPLIES, EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS
    • Maintain an updated inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms
    • Oversee the purchasing of supplies, equipment, and uniforms in coordination with coaches
    • Inspect all athletic areas for cleanliness and the proper storage of all athletic supplies, equipment, and uniforms
    • Provide each coach with equipment, team medical supplies, and uniforms prior to the season and ensure that each coach returns all equipment, unused supplies, and uniforms
    EVENTS
    • Schedule the use of all athletic facilities and fields for athletic games and practices following school procedure
    • Arrange for officials for all interscholastic events and make arrangements for payment of officials
    • Collaborate with Concessions Manager for event concessions
    • Be present, arrange for a school representative, or be on call for all home games, and assign a coach to assume responsibility at all away games
    • Attend all playoff contests as well as league required away events
    • Arrange for employees for all home games including timekeepers, scorekeepers, and custodians, if applicable
    • Communicate and document medical and emergency procedures and arrange for the availability of medical supplies at all home contests
    • Assume responsibility for cancelation of games as circumstances require to protect athletic participants and district resources and rescheduling
    TRANSPORTATION
    • Arrange and confirm bus or other transportation for athletic participants
    • Verify that all participants have proper permission forms for alternative transportation if requested
    • Communicate the athletic transportation policy to all coaches responsible for away game transportation
    • Transport atheletes and/or equipment in district provided vehiciles when necessary
    COMMUNICATION
    • Conduct athlete, parent, and coaches meetings each season
    • Represent the schools and district at regional meetings and events
    • Communicate issues with school facilities and fields
    • Work with coaches to make sure that all student athletes and parents know the rules and regulations
    • Act as a liaison between coaches and the athletic booster club
    • Develop, review, and revise the athletic handbook and any athletic agreements that each athlete, parent, and coach must abide by, with recommendations from administration and coaches, and subject to the school district approval
    • Promote and model good sportsmanship and maintain an active program that welcomes competing teams, guests, and game officials
    • Arrange for videotaping of athletic events as appropriate
    • Follow the communication chain of command per policy:
      • o Athlete/parent > Coach; Coach > Athletic Director; Athletic Director > Building Administration; Building Administration > Superintendent
    COACH SUPERVISION
    • Supervise and evaluate all coaches on an annual basis
    • Ensure coaching staff are adhering to league and district rules and policies
    • Report all hires to district office for the application and background investigation processes
    • Issue all athletic contracts
    • Provide orientation for coaches
    • Assist with the revision as needed of district criteria for evaluating, renewing, and hiring of coaches annual contracts
    • Work with administration in problems of discipline concerning coaches and students
    Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the High School Principal or Superintendent.
