Description

The Medical Scribe will assist the Provider in documenting physician-patient interactions in the Rural Health Clinic, improving the accuracy and efficiency of medical documentation. This is a full-time position offering a full benefit package which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, retirement, and other supplemental plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Documents the dictated patient history, physical examination, medical history, procedures, therapy plan, lab results, and radiographic impressions pertaining to the patient visit.
• Ensures documentation is accurate and detailed.
• Supports the physician by putting in orders for radiologic procedures and prescriptions for patients.
• Ensures treatment rooms are fully stocked.
• Communicates with physician and patients professionally.
• Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as directed. 
• Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. Follows HIPAA regulations.
• Courteous to patients, visitors, and staff; treats all patients, visitors, and staff with respect and dignity.
• Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time frames.
• Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
• Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
• Adheres to all JPH policies and procedures.

Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency in medical and pharmaceutical terminology preferred.
• One year of related experience in a hospital or clinic setting preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Medical Scribe Certification through the AAPC, Medical Scibes Training Institute, or another related program preferred.
• BLS Certification is required upon hire. 

LANGUAGE and PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 
• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Strong attention to detail.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment including working long hours, if necessary.
• Strong computer competency.

MACHINERY/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to operate telephone, fax machine, copy machine, computer, printer, and calculator.
