Clayton County Public Schools is Hiring a Campus Security Officer (CSO) (Pool Posting) Near Jonesboro, GA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sector Sergeant, this position provides a safe environment for students, staff and guests on campus. They establish and maintain a productive rapport with the students, staff and community members while creating and maintaining a positive working relationship with the School Resource Officers and other local and state Public Safety Officials. They assist in the development and implementation of emergency action plans in the event of an emergency requiring an immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents and other matters and events that require emergency intervention. This position reports to the Sergeant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patrols the exterior and interior of campus in an effort to provide assistance and direction as well as confront unauthorized persons for questioning and to check for passes and identification as needed. Ensures doors and gates are locked and opened at designated times determined by the Principal.

Monitors school facilities (e.g. surveillance camera, locker rooms, stadium, etc.) for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring potential crimes, and investigating student-related incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts and/or pursuing further action.

Assists with District Safe School Searches where students, vehicles, lockers, etc. are checked for weapons for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Observe and report violations of school safety practices, District policies, and school rules. 

Prepares documentation (e.g. incident and activity reports, parking permits, referrals, schedules, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

Responds to emergency situations (e.g. fights, injury, classroom, etc.) for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns and issues. Safely restrains students with the least appropriate force (only if absolutely necessary), e.g. overdoses, behavioral problems, mental health crisis etc. for the purpose of ensuring the students safety, their own safety and the safety of others.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate by the Chief of Police and/or Superintendent.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or equivalent

Job-related experience preferred.

Makes decisions and recommendations which affect the activities of others.

Security training and/or law enforcement experience preferred.

Sound judgment capabilities are required: individual is required to work at and within the established school site; demonstrate problem solving skills and crisis intervention strategies; independent judgment is required. 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and eternal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with officials at higher levels. Good interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.

Great time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete assignments without direction from a supervisor.

Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Constant (Daily)

Requires travel to off-site locations/school sites. 

The work to be performed is outside in seasonal temperatures as well as inside of the building. Work is performed both during daylight and night hours.

Moderate Duty - On most occasions walking or standing for long periods of time; reaching, climbing stairs and kneeling are required; flexibility and patience are required. Moderate lifting or carrying 50 lbs. or less.

NOTE: This is a 205-day position paid on the CPS salary scale. This position pays for experience up to a Step 4.
