Job purpose
Oversee the procurement of production components, manage supplier relationships and ensure best quality and cost are achieved.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manage suppliers to meet objectives related to quality, delivery performance, schedule and cost
- Analyze and select suppliers based upon quality performance, on-time delivery and competitive pricing
- Create supplier performance improvement plans to drive higher performance
- Negotiate with suppliers on lead-time, cost and quality to obtain the best total cost
- Manage supplier relationships and business environment
- Improve supplier capabilities and capacities
- Identify cost savings opportunities through process improvement / design change ideas
- Travel required (up to 15% domestic and/or international)
- BA/BS degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Materials Management or 2 years post-secondary education and 5 years purchasing or related experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of product and market
- Previous purchasing or buying experience
- Technical experience with associated commodities
- Fundamental accounting terms and procedures
- Fundamental business transactions and terms
- Strong MS Office skills
