Description

Medical Massage Therapists work with medical providers to develop a massage therapy plan to treat diagnosed health conditions. The role will take place within a medical center setting. Medical Massage Therapists provide therapeutic massages of soft tissues and joints. Many also assist in the assessment of range of motion and muscle strength. Medical massage therapists have advanced training and experience that allows them to provide care focused on healing injuries, improving function, or increasing circulation.

Essential Job Functions

1. Must be following instructions of the Provider to design the proper treatment plan for a patient.

2. Assess clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion.

3. Take Patient Vitals and History of Present Illness

4. Provide courses of treatment for medical conditions and injuries or wellness maintenance.

5. Use various massage techniques to manipulate muscles and soft tissue to treat chronic pain and injuries.

6. Perform therapy pain modalities which include:

   1. Hydrotherapy (application of heat and cold packs)

   2. Electrotherapy (ultrasound and TENS)

   3. Paraffin dips (Hand (Glove) Method)

7. Prepare for new patients by cleaning exam and treatment areas and ensure proper supplies are in stock and available.

8. Maintains clinical documentation of therapies performed and provided

9. Educate patients on how to improve their posture and teach them strengthening, stretching, and rehabilitative exercises as well as relaxation techniques. Obtain informed consent, as needed.

10. Communicate and work closely with Providers and Office Manager

11. Abides by HIPAA laws regarding of sharing of personal medical information

12. Assure a high standard of medical care by reviewing results of patient satisfaction surveys.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work standing up, walk, use hands to operate tools and equipment and must be able to exert regularly up to 10 pounds of force, frequently exert 30 pounds of force and occasionally exert 50 pounds of force to constantly perform the essential job functions. The employee will be frequently required to reach with hands and arms, bend, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to noise; there may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

Required Education and Experience

1. Licensed Massage Therapist

2. BLS/CPR certification

3. Certification in pain modality techniques

4. Silver Sneakers certification OR obtain within 6 months of employment

5. Experience as a medical massage therapist in a health care setting

6. Knowledge as a Wellness/Activities Coordinator, Educator, Instructor.

7. Current knowledge of applicable federal and state Healthcare regulations, including privacy laws

8. Bi-lingual fluency in English and Spanish

9. Good written, verbal and communication skills

10. Capacity to maintain confidentiality

11. People-oriented - enjoys interacting with people and working on group activities

12. Ability to motivate patients

13. Professional appearance

14. Computer skills

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Relevant or any other job-related vocational coursework.
