About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and dedicated Learning Specialist to join our Orange County teaching team for the 2024/2025 school year, with a potential start date of August 1st, 2024 (exacting timing is flexible). This role is perfect for someone passionate about working with children and eager to teach engaging classes in engineering, clay, and coding.

No prior knowledge in each subject is required. We will provide comprehensive training and curriculum to ensure you feel confident in leading classrooms across various exciting topics. After working at Lando, you’ll be an expert across our subject areas!

This role needs someone who is comfortable and excited about technology, has a great sense of responsibility for students in the class, and able to work well with groups of children in grades 1 to 5.

Classes for the 2024/2025 school year are currently planned to be in Costa Mesa, Irvine, and Lake Forest.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: Competitive rates of $30-$50 per hour, translating to $75-$125 per day for 2.5 hours of work. Potential to work up to 5 days per week, with classes mostly scheduled between 2pm & 5pm.

Benefits include:

  • 2 days of paid time off (PTO) per semester
  • Clear system for pay increases each semester, with a pathway to advance to a Senior Learning Specialist Role earning $50 per hour
  • Flexible schedules granting opportunities to work 1-5 days per week to fit your personal and professional life
  • Paid trainings and ongoing support from dedicated mentor and fellow teachers
  • Work in a friendly, inclusive, and motivated team dedicated to providing high-quality educational experiences

Responsibilities

  • Class Preparation: Pack and manage your own class supplies, ensuring all necessary materials are ready and organized for each session
  • Effective Communication: Build and maintain warm, positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff through clear and effective communication.
  • Class Delivery: Deliver engaging and high-quality classes, both digital and analog, across various subjects including engineering, clay, and coding.
  • Punctuality: Arrive on time for every class, demonstrating reliability and commitment to the students' learning experience.
  • Consistency: Commit to teaching the same days each week for the entire semester (~10 weeks) to ensure a stable learning environment.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated interest or experience managing groups of children grade 1 to 5 (e.g. volunteer teacher, camp counselor)
  • A passion to engage with and delight families, ideally with experience in customer-facing roles (e.g. retail, hospitality, sales, customer service)
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a love for organization
  • Ability to work at Lando from August to December 2024 (ability to work through June 2025 is preferred)
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Location

This role will require teaching on-campus in schools in the Orange County area.

Lando is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Our team is stronger because of the different backgrounds, abilities, identities, and mindsets each person brings.
