BC US LLC is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Immokalee, FL

BC US LLC was established in 2012 near Immokalee Florida, approximately 40 miles due east of Naples Florida. The site serves as a breeding, holding, and quarantine facility for Mauritian origin macaques. Together with our high-level of care and enrichment programs, we ensure that the company oversees a program of the highest standards providing non-human primate models for life-saving biomedical research programs to pharmaceutical companies, CRO’s as well as Universities.

The Laboratory Technician will report to the Laboratory Manager. The ideal candidate can perform bacteriological cultures and interpret the results as well as do antimicrobial sensitivity tests, water testing, and microscopy for ova and parasites.

Microbiology and microscopy technical knowledge are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Following the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results
  • Fecal examinations (i.e. Fecal flotations, direct smear, stained fecal smear) Hematology (i.e. CBC, biochemistry)
  • Bacterial cultures and confirmatory biochemical tests
  • Perform other diagnostic and screenings per facility SOPs
  • Inventory of veterinary and laboratory stock
  • Shipping of biological samples
  • Maintaining sample inventory
  • Ensuring the laboratory is properly maintained and sanitized
  • Laboratory machine maintenance including QC procedures
  • Water chemistry (i.e. chlorine, pH, salinity testing)
  • Data recording and entry
  • Following biosafety procedures
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology Biomedical Research, Clinical Pathology, or Molecular Biology a plus.
  • Previous experience with nonhuman primates and/or other animals in a research setting is preferred but not required.
  • Proven skill in animal handling and restraint across common laboratory animal species; basic bio-methodology, including blood collection and injections; and general animal husbandry
  • Must be able to work from 6:30am to 2:30pm in summer and from 7:00am to 3:00pm in winter.
  • English required. Spanish is a plus.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to undergo fit testing for an N95 respirator mask. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee must be able to distinguish colors.

Work Environment

This position has an indoor/outdoor work environment that may require working in inclement weather conditions. This position also requires exposure to biohazards and potentially dangerous animals.
