Behavioral Health Social Worker

We are hiring Behavioral Health Clinical Social Workers dedicated to serving the residents of our county struggling with a variety of mental health disorders. Positions are available for licensed professionals (LMSW or LCSW) to join our team, and practice social work to help clients with social, emotional and related difficulties associated with their disabilities. Under the direction of the Clinical Director and Supervisors, this team member will assist prescribers, physicians and colleagues to maintain the highest level and quality of service to our clients. Please note that this is an on-site, in person position and must meet residency requirements as listed below.

This job title is non-competitive through the New York State Civil Service HELP (Hiring Emergency Limited Placement) Program. Candidates hired between June 26, 2023 through June 25, 2024 will not be required to take the Civil Service exam. The applicant must be a resident of Columbia, Albany, Ulster, Dutchess, Rensselaer or Greene County, NY, at the time of the exam, and four (4) months prior to the date of appointment. This is a full time position with part time opportunities.

Behavioral Health Social Worker Description

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an entry level social worker position that requires the performance of professional social work duties in helping clients with social, emotional and related difficulties associated with their disabilities. The work is performed within prescribed routines.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the practice and procedures of social work and of the social factors affecting behavioral health disease and disability; ability to organize time and effort to meet assigned situations and work demands; ability to function effectively in teams, ability to interpret federal, state and local laws affecting the medical and health programs; ability to express and transmit knowledge clearly in oral and written form; ability to navigate electronic service documentation software, ability to establish and maintain relationships within and outside the department in a professional manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a graduate school approved by the New York State Department of Education with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, and possession of certificate or license to practice social work (LMSW or LCSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education; Continuing Education – Employees holding this title shall comply with provisions of mandatory continuing education requirements prescribed in Article 154 S1170 of NYS Education Law.
