Howell Public Schools is Hiring a Food Service Assistant #12 (HHS 10-12) Near Howell, MI

Position Title: Food Service Assistant #12Location: Howell High School 10-12
Reports To: Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal
Status: Ten (10) month position (21.25 hrs/week; 4.25 hrs/day; M-F 9:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.);
First day of school for students - Last day of school for students
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SummaryThe Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias by preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, all while providing excellent customer service to staff and students.
Essential Functions
  • Fill coolers on the serving lines with starting milk for lunch. Record quantities on all lunch production records.
  • Fill condiment containers. Measure weights and record on lunch production record. Place condiments out for lunch.
  • Run a cash register during all lunch periods.
  • Between lunches restock all milk coolers if needed.
  • Perform cash out procedure at the end of the last lunch.
  • Clean and sanitize work area and countertops.
  • Bring all condiment containers back into the kitchen area, weigh and record leftovers on lunch production record. Date mark and place leftovers in cooler. Once a week disassemble containers fully and wash.
  • Help FSA# fill coolers with a la carte beverages.
  • Check the ice cream freezer and fill when needed.
  • Inform kitchen manager of food and supplies needed.
  • Fill coolers on serving lines with starting milk for breakfast. Record quantities on breakfast production record.
  • Help clean and sanitize dishes.
  • Take cooler and freezer temperatures at the end of the day 1:30 p.m.
  • Clean and sanitize sink, towel and soap dispensers.
  • Clean and sanitize milk cooler about once per month or as needed.
  • Inform manager of food and supplies needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Service Supervisor.
Note: Food Service Employees running a register need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

Education And ExperienceHigh school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental AdaptabilityThe work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee’s automobile between buildings is required.
