Baylor Genetics is Hiring a Cytogenetic Technologist Near Houston, TX

Job Summary:

Prepares, examines, and analyzes chromosomes found in biological specimens, such as amniotic fluids, bone marrow, and blood, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases.

Essential Duties:

  • Harvests cell cultures at optimum time sequence based on knowledge of cell cycle differences and culture conditions.
  • Prepares slides of cell cultures, selects banding techniques, and stains slides to make chromosomes visible under a microscope.
  • Performs analysis of G-banded or FISH slides in order to determine the presence of any structural abnormalities.
  • Performs non-routine cytogenetic procedures as required.
  • Ensures the quality assurance of laboratory equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.

Experience:

  • Required: Two years' experience as a Cytogenetic Technologist.

Certification/Licenses/Registration:

  • Required: Certification/registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or certification as a Clinical Lab Specialist in Cytogenetics (NCA).
