Forefront Emergency Management (www.forefrontem.com) is seeking a Entry-Level Accountant to provide assistant to our accounting team in our Houma Office. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a passion for accounting to support our financial operations. Job Summary:

Compile data, compute fees and charges, and prepare invoices for billing purposes. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. Checking, coding, and ensuring the accuracy of invoices and bills to pay. Duties include computing costs and calculating rates for services performed; posting data; and keeping other relevant records.

Essential Functions:

• Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
• Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
• Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Operate 10-key calculators, typewriters, and copy machines to perform calculations and produce documents.
• Code documents according to company procedures.
• Perform financial calculations, such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.
• Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.
• Perform general office duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
• Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
• Debit, credit, and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases, using specialized accounting software.
• Perform personal bookkeeping services.
• Monitor status of accounts to ensure that payments are up to date.
• Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements according to established procedures.
• Track costs within a spill management team environment, when needed
• Review documents such as purchase orders, job tickets, or other records to compute fees or charges due
• Keep records of invoices and support documents
• Resolve discrepancies with invoices such as missing purchase order number or other information required to process the invoice
• Type billing documents or credit memorandums
• Verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors
• Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expenses and other financial reports with account balances and other office records
• Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
• Comply with accounting federal, state, and company policies, programs, and regulations
• Track costs within a spill management team environment, when needed
• Other related duties as assigned

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

Competencies:

• Knowledge of GAAP principles
• Knowledge of Sage 50 PeachTree accounting software
• Knowledge of Oracle NetSuite accounting software
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
• Maintaining confidentiality at all times and in compliance with HIPPA, GAAP, and local/state/federal applicable laws
