A quick look at the role.We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and operability of our Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT) plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of mechanical fitters and technicians, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment and systems.
The Biffa division you'll be supporting.Within Resources & Energy we focus on the treatment, recycling and disposal of waste. It provides a number of treatment services for those materials that can be recovered and landfill disposal for those that are not suitable for recycling or energy recover.
Our MRF's & PRFs are nine automated facilities capable of handling almost a million tonnes per annum of mixed recycling (this is equivalent to the household recycling of 8.5 million people). The facilities sort dry mixed recyclables ready for use as secondary raw materials in manufacturing processes.

- Promote, monitor, and improve the safety culture (reducing incidents and accidents)
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the mechanical systems in the plant, including but not limited to pumps, valves, conveyors, mixers, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and serviced to prevent breakdowns and downtime
- Manage a team of mechanical fitters and technicians, providing guidance, support, and training as needed
- Develop and implement maintenance and repair schedules for all mechanical equipment and systems
- Collaborate with other departments, such as operations and maintenance, to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations
- Participate in the design and installation of new equipment and systems as needed
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues as they arise
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the maintenance department
- Collaborate with the Stores Manager to ensure stores are maintained to a professional standard, and stock levels are recorded and maintained to the correct levels
- Produce standard operating procedures and / or work instructions to suit engineering tasks
- Contractor management, including reviewing Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS), writing permits, and managing on site activities
- HNC Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
- IOSH managing safely
- Hand on industrial experience, with practical working plant knowledge
- Managing a small team of engineers
