Job Summary To formulate and direct policies to provide a safe and healthful atmosphere within the workplace and to comply with all federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulations. Essential Functions Develops health and safety procedures and programs for all departments and monitors safety and health compliance to reduce risks. Maintains contingency plans, for all emergency issues, in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements. Maintains JSA/SOP’s to ensure current are accurate. Develops new JSA/SOP’s as warranted. Leads all incident investigations, including Workers Compensation, for near misses up to lost time incidents. Ensures accurate documentation, develops appropriate action plans, tracks progress to plans, communicates with WC provider and all health professionals. Manages risk program for the plant including compliance with AoN guidelines. Supervises maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are always accessible and current according to regulations. Primary interface with environmental consultants Sevee & Maher. Develops inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules. Develops curriculum for required OSHA training and ensures compliance through tracking progress. Examples include emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, arc flash, machine guarding, fall protection, forklift safety, etc. Maintains ADEM records of hazardous waste, DMR submittals, miscellaneous reporting, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations. Monitors professional literature and attends seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements. Drives sustainability initiatives within the plant to meet/exceed corporate expectations. Responsible for all environmental compliance activities (ECP Plan) and SoFi reporting. Manage all Food Safety, Environmental, and Safety audits. Champions and oversees all aspects of the Safety Pillar program. 30 hour OSHA certification can be provided if needed. Other responsibilities as required. Job Qualifications Required Excellent skills in written and oral communication. Basic computer skills with both word processing and database applications. Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs. Good communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related subject. OR Five years of management experience in the field. Environment Spends approximately 50% of time walking and touring manufacturing areas. Incumbent works in a manufacturing environment and will use the following equipment: computer, printer, copier, and telephone. Requires walking (50%), standing (50%) and sitting (10%). Requires full range of body motion such as twisting, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching at/above/below shoulders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Required safety equipment: safety shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs.
