Job Description

Job Summary Cox Communications is seeking an External Communications Specialist to support our entire Central Region. The role of an External Communications Specialist involves managing and coordinating external communication efforts. Primary Responsibilities

  • Write and edit communications, to include print and digital.
  • Develop and manage social media public affairs content.
  • Develop and produce multimedia communications.
  • Craft company communications, including speeches, talking points, ghost writing, media releases / statements.
  • Assist in development communications plans, messages, tools, and training to help leaders communicate effectively when speaking to external audiences.
  • Build and implement multi-faceted communications and event project plans for a variety of external audiences ensuring alignment with Cox's brand image and voice
  • Assist in planning, development and implementation of meetings and events (streaming and in-person).
  • Evaluate communications programs and create / implement strategies for improvement
  • Assist in departmental reporting.
  • Participate in regional business continuity process and structure by providing communications during business-impacting events, such as inclement weather.
  • Advance the Cox brand with external audiences.
  • Collaborate with peers across the company to ensure message and strategy alignment.

Qualifications Minimum

2 or more years of experience required in related field (i.e. Communications, Public Relations, etc.) along with a Bachelor’s degree.

Or candidate can have a Master’s degree and up to 2 years of experience, or 6 years of experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Must have very strong written, oral communication and copyediting skills and the ability to demonstrate those during the interview process.
  • Flexible communications skills.
  • Must have some knowledge and understanding of social media platforms.
  • Must be familiar with communications technologies including intranets, podcasts, video, social media, collaborative networks, and other electronic tools, and must consistently consider the best utility for each.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred

  • BS / BA in related discipline strongly desired (i.e. Communications, Journalism, etc.)
  • Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
  • Agency and previous corporate experience working in a similar capacity are a plus.
