This position is a one-year fellowship.

Support the media relations and communications team in creating, implementing, and maintaining a general and crisis communications strategy to defend Hillsdale College, its mission, and its independence and ensure that the strategy is consistent in principle and purpose with the Colleges understandings of learning, character, faith, and freedom.

1. Support the communications and media outreach efforts for the College as a whole, especially through the publication of campus newsletters and through press release and media advisory publication.
2. Manage the creation of, secure photography/photos/transcripts/videos for, and distribute press releases that align with the departments messaging objectives.
3. Oversee student-writers and track completed work.
4. Maintain and update the News and Media website.
5. Manage the creation and publication of the bi-weekly faculty and staff newsletter, weekly senior media scan, periodic board of trustees media scan, monthly community newsletter, and quarterly Nimrod newsletter, among others.
6. Coordinate community relations sponsorships and activities (i.e. parades, WCSR interviews, etc.)
7. Help to execute an annual public relations plan to support and improve the Colleges overall communications objectives and track the publication of these projects.
8. Use monitoring tools to analyze media and communications opportunities.
9. Foster a team-oriented, results-driven environment.
10. Track and report results (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).
11. Keep informed and educated on public relations and communications best practices. Stay updated/abreast of current trends in higher education.

Education & Experience

This position requires a Bachelors degree (or pending degree) or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.

Physical Requirements

Ability to read, write, hear, speak, see and communicate effectively. Ability to operate basic office equipment to include, photocopier, fax machine, computer equipment, and the like.
