Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services is Hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Near Henrico, VA

Direct Support Professional
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements independent daily activities for clients
  • Assist clients in developing acceptable habits and attitudes
  • Administer medication in accordance with program procedures
  • Set parameters and implements positive behavior support mechanisms
  • Assists clients with personal care and personal hygiene
  • Assists clients in meeting goals and objectives of any required service
  • Maintains documentation regarding clients as required
  • Transport clients to activities in the community
  • Participates in staff meetings
  • Performs other related work as assigned
  • Oversees physical care of clients by maintaining visual and auditory supervision of clients
  • Provides education and training to clients in the areas of social skills, usage of community resources and life skills
  • Promotes good community relations and represent the facility in a positive manner to the community

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Knowledge of group process skills and group management skills

  • Must be, or ability to become CPR, First-Aid, restraint and MEDS certified
  • Ability to implement approved methods of physical restraint
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations within a special care setting
  • Ability to work in a team model of management
  • Ability to creatively organize and implement a variety supplemental program activities for the clients
  • Knowledge of life skills, counseling techniques and appropriate intervention procedures with socially and emotionally maladjusted clients

Professional Growth Expectations:

  • Availability for no less than 40 hours of annual in-service/formalized training related to the development and/or maintenance of skills necessary for performance of their duties. Certification in first-aid, CPR, restraint and MEDS certified for continued employment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree in human services
  • An associate degree and three months experience working with children; or
  • A high school graduate or have a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) and have six months of experience working with children.
  • Possession of a valid VA Driver’s LicenseWorking with children means professional experience such as a paid job or a student internship. Some volunteer work such as foster parenting, youth group mentoring, sports programs coaching, and organized girls and boys programs may also be accepted.Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services provided the following inclusive hiring information:

Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
