Henderson Co Detention Center is Hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor Near Henderson, KY

Job description SUMMARY OF POSITION: Henderson County Detention Center is looking to hire a self-motivated, outgoing, organized counselor to provide case management & counseling services to inmates participating in the substance abuse program. All counselors must also perform administrative duties while mentoring participants and maintaining & establishing professional relationships with coworkers and the community. The counselor will adhere to the guidelines and professional codes of ethics as determined by the Kentucky Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • 21 years of age - Minimum • Possess & maintain Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License & reliable transportation for all weather conditions; • Maintain a clear, acceptable pre-hire & annual criminal history & background check • Possess & maintain reliable, working telephone; • Graduate of an accredited college/university with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field with clinical experience in substance abuse treatment and/or counseling. • Correctional knowledge (preferred); • Clinical experience (preferred); • Computer / data entry • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (or LCADC, LCADCA) OR • Temporary Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor AND • Must be willing to work aggressively & diligently towards CADC certificate; • Ability to travel, attend & complete all training (required) • Ability to work flexible hours (required). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES required for employee: • Interview & assess SAP participants. • Determine individual and group needs; • On the basis of need, develop and lead programs for both individual & group treatment; • Plan, develop & conduct seminars, workshops & specialized programs in the specific areas of substance abuse & prevention. • Serve as a liaison between Henderson County Detention Center, other community & agency programs or interested parties. • Coordinate SAP admission, treatment, evaluation, & completion or discharge. • Develop, Enter & Provide \accurate, detailed & complete information regarding participants and / or SAP with detention center staff and contractors. • Ability to Compile accurate, concise, & detailed files; • Review, monitor, update, maintain, & close-out inmate SAP files; • Prepare progress reports on assigned inmates, • Assist administrative & supervisory staff in development of statistical reports, • Utilize established rules, policies, & procedures of the detention center & state in making decisions while performing administrative tasks independently & professionally; • Use unbiased, professional conduct and sound judgment in meeting requirements & performing the duties of the position while remaining in compliance with all federal, state, local laws and the detention center rules, policies and procedures. Substance Abuse Counselor • Monitor & regularly review status of participants to verify that treatment & therapeutic programs are being completed as required; • Administer personnel and inmate policies in an unbiased manner, • Prepare & maintain a variety of standard narratives, reports, & logs, statistical, summary and/or operational records, using appropriate grammar, to include filing, alphabetizing and labeling; properly process all reports and documents in a timely manner. • Screen requests for records and appropriately approve/disapprove in accordance with policies and procedures & Kentucky law. • Attend scheduled staff & group meetings, training, & activities essential to Henderson County's Substance Abuse Program; • Openly & professionally communicate with Henderson County staff, contractors & participants with information relevant to SAP & the safety & security of Henderson County Detention Center; • Must be honest, trustworthy, motivated, self-directed, • Must possess & demonstrate a high level of morals and ethics, • Must demonstrate the ability to provide concise information, instruction and direction to inmates, • Must possess the ability to compile and relay accurate, detailed information in court and other formal settings. • Must have the ability to assess & de-escalate an encounter ( when confronted with verbal and mental abuse, hostile views, and opinions of inmates and others. Ex: Visitors and family members, encountered in an antagonistic environment.) • Must possess the ability to work calmly under pressure including assisting in a rescue function at the scene of an accident, emergency or disaster to include administrating basic emergency medical aid. • Must possess the ability to take appropriate action in order to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations. • Maintain equipment and supplies as required; • Order replacement items in a timely manner by written request to the AR/AP office; • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. • Attend seminars, workshops, conferences, training, etc., as required. • Must comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contracts. • Remain alert at all times; react quickly, efficiently, effectively, and calmly in emergency and other high stress situations. • Other duties as assigned.
