The Grants Coordinator provides ongoing support (primarily pre-award) for grant-seeking faculty and staff at Northern for the purpose of increasing overall fluency and comfortability in the sponsored programs process, the proportion of faculty and staff participating in grant-writing, and the proportion of faculty and staff producing successful grant applications each year. The Grants Coordinator assists faculty and staff, as needed, with proposal development by, among other things, identifying appropriate funding opportunities, providing guidance on compliance with application guidelines, offering assistance in the development of each grant application’s conceptual approach, and providing feedback on grant application drafts to improve readability, clarity, and focus. This position is responsible for maintaining a streamlined internal proposal routing process, providing assistance with institutional approvals, and supporting applicants with proposal submission. The Grants Coordinator is a member of the Grant Support Team and contributes to the development, implementation, and communication of policies and procedures related to sponsored programs. As part of this team, the Grants Coordinator also contributes to the development and implementation of pre-award training opportunities for the campus community and the dissemination of resources helpful in the grant application process. The Grants Coordinator monitors deadlines for all institutional grant awards to ensure timely reporting compliance. Duties include:
Work with the Grant Support Team to develop and communicate policies and procedures related to the on-campus sponsored programs process
Work with the Grant Support Team to develop and implement pre-award training for all faculty and staff on campus
Assess faculty and staff awareness of, and comfortability with, the sponsored programs process. Close the loop on any results yielded from that assessment through awareness and outreach initiatives and training
Stay current on external rules, regulations, and requirements related to sponsored programs and advise grant-seekers accordingly
Assist faculty and staff, as needed, with proposal development by, among other things, identifying appropriate funding opportunities, providing guidance on compliance with application guidelines, offering assistance in the development of each grant application’s conceptual approach, and providing feedback on grant application drafts to improve readability, clarity, and focus.
Oversee and assist applicants with internal proposal routing, including institutional approvals, as well as proposal submission
Identify and implement new and innovative initiatives that would improve the sponsored programs process and provide impactful support for grant-seekers
Identify sponsored program funding available to faculty and staff and curate and share this information with potential grant-seekers on a regular basis based on potential interest and area of expertise
Develop a proactive sponsored programs culture among faculty, staff, and the institution as a whole through long-term grants planning
Monitor deadlines for all institutional grant awards to ensure timely reporting compliance
