Hartford Fire Insurance Company in Hartford, CT, has the following opening for a Director of Data Engineering. Summary of Duties: Lead a team of Data Engineers to design, develop, and implement modern and sustainable data assets to fuel machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions. Drive the entire software development lifecycle process in support of continuous data delivery, while leading the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies. Use the latest data technologies, software engineering practices, and Agile delivery frameworks to build well-architected and innovative solutions that drive business value. Collaborate with Data Scientists and Asset Owners to advise approaches to business opportunities. Develop the design and vision for data pipelines and testing frameworks, both batch and real-time to meet business needs while balancing maintainability, reliability, security, and scalability. Provide guidance on and independently navigate data warehouses, understand data architectures, and join disparate data sources to ensure quality and appropriateness of data solutions. Contribute to and execute a multi-year roadmap to build and remediate enterprise-grade data assets leveraging cloud-based target state technology and architecture. Drive disciplined innovation by balancing a relentless focus on delivering results and customer adoption with out-of-the-box thinking and a continuous improvement mindset. Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT unit stakeholders. Qualifications: Position requires a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Data Science; plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or alternate occupation. In addition, position requires 2 years of experience in the following skills: Big data; Hadoop; Python; Pyspark; Unix Shell scripting; AWS cloud technologies. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
