DescriptionLead the development and implementation of plastic injection molding, equipment and tooling projects supporting business growth and productivity improvement. Provide comprehensive management of suppliers in providing world - class tooling and equipment satisfying all project QCD deliverables. Collaborate with supply management, product design, industrial design, and manufacturing engineering teams to optimize the product cost and functionality of new plastic components and the associated tooling designs. Serve as internal plastic tooling and manufacturing specialist, leveraging a thorough understanding of mold-making materials/fabrication techniques, resin selection and molding process parameters. Properly apply available tools and methodologies (DFM, SPC, DOE, Lean, ETC) to achieve and maintain world class performance in all injection molding activities.
This Position Will Be Responsible For
- Analyze project requirements and estimate required investments for injection molding tooling, presses and peripheral process equipment to support customer project and plan productivity activities for the NA Region. Evaluate investment alternatives to propose an optimized business case solution.
- Provide timely inputs to the product design team in an effort to reduce product cost and/or manufacturing complexity.
- Ensure all tooling developments for new programs are in full compliance with Requirements and Standards.
- Create required technical specifications to support all tooling and equipment request for quotation based on applicable standards.
- Evaluate supplier quotations and recommend sourcing decisions based on compliance to technical specifications, standards and market competitiveness.
- Ensure that the selected supplier has a clear understanding of all technical and timing requirements for tooling or equipment and is fully committed to achieving all project requirements prior to issuance of a Purchase Order.
- Oversee and approve Moldflow simulation on all assigned tooling projects prior to start of tool build.
- Lead/support all appropriate project APQP activities (PFMEA, PCP, etc.) for all elements of the molding processes.
- Construct and manage a comprehensive project timeline inclusive of linked key deliverables from other functions (i.e. R&D drawing release, project funding availability, etc.)
- Weekly management of a project open issue list with internal customers.
- Lead the change management process for plastic component process and product modifications or deviations. Ensure all customer engineering change Notices are properly processed within the required timing.
- Lead the definition and documentation of optimized molding process parameters through appropriate use of DOE techniques.
- Secure the PPAP approval process with internal customers per project timing and ensure no customer incident due to plastic process or product modification.
- Support productivity actions associated with internal plastic manufacturing departments or an external supplier. Fully utilize the Production System toolbox to implement applicable lean concepts (SMED etc.)
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to identify new cost saving opportunities associated with injection molded components.
- Utilize technical expertise as required, to support problem solving efforts within internal and external molding activities.
- Support tool maintenance / rebuild activities as required through technical guidance/ support and supplier performance.
- 5 years' experience in manufacturing
- Knowledge of injection molding tooling
- Injection molding experience 4 Years
- Project Management Experience 3 Years
