Description:

This position is working within a family outpatient clinic that is connected to the hospital. The team is looking for someone who is looking to gain experience in their career and is looking to learn and grow within an organization. There is a patient volume of approximately 15-20 patients daily depending on walk ins and those scheduled. the volume for this MA will be a little slower since they will be starting with a newer provider that is building out their network.

The majority of time (30%) will be spent assisting providers by rooming patient, obtaining blood pressure, documenting signs/symptoms, taking weight and temperature as well as completing medical history documentation.

The next bulk of time (25%) will be spent performing the following:

- Setting up for procedures and assisting providers with procedures, which could include: performing dressing changes, catheterizations, removing castings, removing sutures and staples, breathing treatments, ear washes, assisting with cast application and DME fittings, EKG’s, urinalyses, strep/flu/pregnancy tests, and other misc. tests as directed by the provider/dependent upon the specialty practice.

Each of the following will consume approx. 10% of your time:

- Schedules tests, radiology exams, appointments with specialists as requested, enter all information pertaining to check-in/check-out in the EMR. Performs prior authorizations as needed. Notifies office referral specialist when insurance referral is required.

- Assists provider with office exams and collecting the following: height, weight, BMI and other pertinent misc. information. Updates immunization records.

- Phone triage when scheduled- including: patient medical questions, test results, medication refills, and call-backs to patients, also includes faxes/calls/transmits prescription refills as directed.

- Performs walk-in patient duties as needed, which may include: triage, injections, blood pressures, urinalyses, medication sample requests, collecting history and other information from the patients to be relayed to the provider.

- Functions as a resource to visitors, providers and staff- greets everyone promptly and courteously. Communicates clearly and continuously supports the Mission and Values of the organization.

Finally, the last two will take up 5% of time:

- Performs additional duties not addressed here as assigned by the Practice Administrator, practice site provider and/or the VP of Physician Practices.

- Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must Have:

- Active CMA (AAMA), RMA, NCMA or CCMA certification required.

- Successful completion of AND graduation from a recognized medical assistant training course (or equivalent experience required).

- HSD

- An upbeat, positive, outgoing attitude and not afraid to "jump in" when needed to ensure consistent patient flow and positive interactions from patients

- Able to stand for long periods of time

- Minimum of 2-3 years working as a CMA

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

- Experience within family practice

- POC testing

- Experience with Cerner (or EMR systems in general)
