Administrative Nursing Supervisor

With 70 beds, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) is an acute care community hospital committed to delivering excellence in patient care and meeting the current and emerging health needs of the North Fork and Shelter Island. In 2019, Eastern Long Island Hospital joined with Stony Brook Medicine to preserve the mission of our founders to better serve our community. A campus of Stony Brook University Hospital, SBELIH provides regional behavioral health programs serving the greater Suffolk County area.

Hospital services include Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Advanced Ambulatory Care, Addiction Services, Psychiatry, Emergency, Geriatric, Diagnostic Services, Physical Therapy and Gastrointestinal Services. SBELIH is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval.

The opportunity: In this role you will be a part of the Nursing Leadership Team and has responsibility for supervising, directing nursing activities of all nursing units and acts as a liaison for any administrative problems occurring during the assigned shift.

How you will impact the Hospital:

  • Makes frequent rounds in patient care areas to assess patients’ conditions and responses to treatment.
  • Routinely reviews nursing care plans and the medical record to ensure that staff identifies patients’ health status, patients’ and families’ learning needs and plans nursing activities to address those needs.
  • Assures adherence to appropriate staffing patterns and that schedule changes are made accurately.
  • Recognizes adverse changes in unit condition and communicates information appropriately.
  • Participates in the development of standards of care in conjunction with the department head as assigned.

  • Participates in PI activities for units and ensures that PI requirements are met.
  • In conjunction with the Charge RN, consistently provides direction in the application of the nursing process, performance improvement standards, organization and departmental goals and objectives in accordance with hospital/nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership to all staff in complex assignments and serves as a role model in the organization and performance of clinical care at a proficient level.
  • Ensures and evaluates the quality of patient care delivered based upon knowledge of patient needs and staff capability.

To be successful:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Health Related Field preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Health Related field preferred.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in New York State required.
  • Minimum of (2) two years’ progressive leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of (5) five years’ acute hospital critical care experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of AHA BLS required.
  • Successful completion of AHA ACLS strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience acting as Administrator On Call strongly preferred.
  • Excellent supervisory and communication skills necessary for coordinating staff activities and interpreting operating policies and procedures for staff.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook ELI 's Employee Health Services*
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

  • The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
